Saturday’s Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community Wacipi began with a ceremonial flag raising, followed by a Tiny Tots Special honoring Warrior LaBlanc, a Tiny Tots Special honoring Tracy Stade-Repasky, and a Teen Girl’s Fancy SMSC Princess Celianna Thomas Special. A “special” is an honorary dance, usually celebrating a specific individual.
Saturday afternoon featured a Grand Entry led by the Native American veteran color guard carrying the eagle staff and flags. The color guard was followed by visiting dignitaries, tribal royalty, and the dancers, entering the arena by dance style. The exhibitions and contests continued throughout Saturday afternoon. The afternoon concluded with a spectators hand drum contest.
The evening began with another Grand Entry which concluded with the evening prayer. The exhibitions and contests continued as the sun set.
